Impact of Timber Logging on Neighbouring Stands in a Forest of the South Western Cameroon

During conventional logging operations, there is always some damage to nearby stands. This study therefore assessed the caused after operations surrounding stands in a Forest Management Unit (FMU) south western Cameroon operations. The damages were snapped branches/trunks and uprooted trees. A total of 304 trees with diameter ≥ 30 cm cut 770 neighbouring harvestable future affected. It was observed that 375 stand had their trunks snapped, 312 branches 15 uprooted. noted 80% affected those diameters between - 50 cm, which called for next harvest, while least on protected/seed Lophira alata highest due its abundance large size, Distemonanthus benthamianus domino damage. Damage negatively affects concession holders as these are supposed mature before hence yield will be greatly reduced. Sustainable timber exploitation reduce residual care taken ensure falling causes less stand.
